District History

2008 sees West Hull District cover 5 scout groups all in the West Hull area - St Martins, St Nicholas, Church of Ascension, Wellington St Mathews and Wold Rd. This year we registered 31 Beavers, 68 Cubs, 54 Scouts, 11 Explorers and 50 others (including Leaders/helpers, Scout Fellowship, District Team)

Not a great deal is know about the precise history of when West Hull was formed.

But it appears that at one time was split into 2 and the reamalgamated some years later to form the district we know now.

At the moment West Hull consist of 5 groups and 2 explorer units. The groups are based at Wellington St Mathews Church Hall, St Martins Church Hall, St Nicholas Church Hall, Church of Ascension Scout Hut and Wold Road Primary School.

In the past the district has had groups at Newington St John Church on St Georges Road, Anlaby Road Methodist Church on the corner of Plane Street (No longer standing) and many others.

The district has had a number of District Commissioners over the years, some have even had 2 or more goes at it, listed below is the DC's and there approximate years they covered.

Peter Bates - 2006 - Present

Alison Nandi 1996 - 2006

Also know to be DC's but not sure on dates are Graham Feasey, Mike Shakesby, Tony Lyons, Peter Robson, Steve Howarth, David Poppleton

In 2006 West Hull District went on line.

2008 saw the passing of our well loved district secretary Ruth Branagan.
